Emmanuel Candes (with co-recipient Benjamin Recht) has been awarded the Lagrange Prize in optimization.

This prize is awarded every three years jointly by the Mathematical Optimization Society and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics for outstanding work in the area of continuous optimization. Emmanuel and Ben received their award at the opening ceremony of the International Symposium on Mathematical Programming on August 19th in Berlin for their paper, "Exact Matrix Completion via Convex Optimization".
